I can get major wood now.

Merry bought me a car.  Seriously.  A 2006 Kia Sportage(which we like to rhyme with collage, not cottage) with power this and that, 4WD, and most importantly, a lot of cargo space.  Now I need not put off lumber, insulation boards, or furniture purchases until borrowing someone else's pickup or SUV. We got a flyer for Transitowne in the mail Thursday, and I know Merry was itching to get me a car now that her...

You know you’re getting old when …

Just looking through my high school alumni newsletter and came across a couple pictures of new teachers.  Two of them, upon first glance, I thought were students.  Then again,  I thought one of my daughter's recently graduated classmates was a young parent of one of their students. But at least I'm finally feeling more and more grown up ... I often still feel like a kid around older people, and don't expect their...

We Found Them!

Merry was reorganizing the attic yesterday, and opened the wooden box that houses her cast iron cookware.  Except instead of cookware, they were our missing ornaments!!!! She doesn't remember putting them in there and neither do I, nor can we explain why we would do such a thing. But we're thankful, and a bit shocked in a surreal kinda way. Now if only we could find the cookware ...

Gearing Up

It's been snowing more on than off for so many days, i don't remember when it started.  We had a brief thaw, then back to adding a couple feet of white all around. I haven't done much house stuff in spite of buying the 60-gallon aquarium to replace our aspirations for a wood stove.  We finally ordered the last of the jacks we need to level the house, and that will make a list of other projects easier, including the...

My “Shrink” … and Laughter

As part of recently having a business coach, I've been seeing a professional psychologist for an assessment of personal impediments and evaluation of learning style.  I've looked for an excuse to have some counselling for some time ... not because anything is really wrong, but like chiropractic, an adjustment now and then just makes sense.  Besides, a lot of issues I have been aware of for years, though nothing...

A Year Goes By Fast … Without A Book

I recently got an "aniversary" reminder from Outskirts Press that it had been a year since I signed up.  And I'm no closer to finishing and publishing any of the books I've planned since that time. {sigh}

Menace from the Past

After the gas pump clicked itself off at exactly $17, I went into Super Kiss to hear a customer unable to grasp the concept of not getting the free dinner with purchasing 3 car washes when he only wanted one. I immediately recognized his annoying voice as "Paul", someone I worked with during the 2000 census.  He was mind-ragingly moronic and offensive, almost as if his one life's skill was finding and pushing...

Wood Stove

We finally gave up on the wood stove.  Too many delays, and them not knocking on the door loud enough for three adults and a dog in line of sight of it to know anyone was there (and hence missing any opportunity for them to finish beyond deconstruction) ... we just asked for our money back, and got it. The house is well insulated and the furnace is really efficient; managing wood and the stove itself would be more...
